Puppy Preschool

The Puppy Preschool dog training program is specifically developed for young dogs under 5 months of age.Puppy preschool improves the puppy’s confidence and helps develop important canine social interaction skills. Handlers learn the basic principles of positive reinforcement training and many useful hints and tips for training your new puppy to become a pleasant and well-adjusted member of your family.

Puppies must have had their second vaccination to be eligible for enrolment.

At the successful completion of Puppy Preschool, handlers and their dogs will be assessed and may elect to continue to the Intermediate level program.

Total of 7 session, the first session is orientation for handlers only (please leave your puppy at home), followed by 6 session of instructor led training with your puppy.

Pet Manners Dog Training

The Pet Manners dog training program is a great all-round program for dogs 5 months of age or older. Handlers learn the key training tools for developing a great working relationship with their canine family member. Some key topics covered are principles of positive reinforcement dog training techniques, lead handling skills, managing interaction with other dog and developing focus through engagement and communication.

At the successful completion of the Pet Manners dog training program, handlers and their dogs will be assessed and may elect to continue to the Intermediate level program.

Total of 7 session, the first session is orientation for handlers only (please leave your puppy at home), followed by 6 session of instructor led training with your puppy.

Intermediate Dog Training

After successful completion of Puppy Preschool or Pet Manners, handlers and their dogs further refine their techniques in loose lead walking, heel work, building skills in stays and consistent recalls. The objective is that dogs will perform these skills consistently and reliably, even to the stage of successfully doing an off-lead recall.

Each dog will be assessed and if successful will be awarded a Level 3 Certificate. Cairns Regional Council applies a discount to dog registration fees for dogs that have obtained a Level 3 Certificate.

At the successful completion of the intermediate dog training program, handlers and their dogs may elect to continue to the Canine Capers program.

Clever Canines (advanced dog training)

This program allows handlers and their dogs to develop and refine their skills in obedience.  Participants must have completed the Intermediate Level course and have been awarded the Level 3 Certificate.

Handlers are encouraged to set specific training goals and will work with the instructor to achieve these training goals.

What to bring

  • Flat collar or Halti/Gentle Leader.Sturdy lead (approximately 1.5m).
  • Treat pouch or bum-bag which allows easy access to treats during training.
  • Lots of small, moist, easy to swallow yummy treats about the size of your small fingertip (e.g. sausage, cheese).
  • Bring a container with extra treats to refill your treat pouch when needed.
Cost

Puppy Preschool, Pet Manners and Intermediate:

  • Non-members:
    • $140 including single club membership.
    • $145 including double club membership
    • $100 for an additional dog.
  • Existing CCKC members: $100 per dog.

After completing the Puppy Preschool, Pet Manners and Intermediate courses, additional 6 week long training blocks are available at $100 per dog.
